CLI

Any website's tech stack, from your terminal

npx techspy scan detects the frameworks, hosting, analytics, payments and marketing tools behind a site, with DNS and email security when you ask. Plain text for you, JSON and exit codes for scripts.

Included on Plus ($19/mo) and Max.

~/research

$ npx techspy scan acme.io --dns

https://acme.io — 9 technologies

Hosting & CDN: Vercel, Cloudflare

Framework: Next.js, React

Analytics: Segment, Amplitude

Payments: Stripe

DNS grade: A

Saved scan: 7f3c…e21a

Set up in three steps

  1. 1.Get an API key

The CLI uses an API key from the Plus or Max plan. Create one on the API page.

  2. 2.Save it once

Paste the key at the prompt. It is stored in ~/.config/techspy/config.json, readable only by you, and never typed as a flag, so it stays out of your shell history.

    bash
    npx techspy login
  3. 3.Scan

Node 18 or later, nothing to install. Add options for more stages.

    bash
    npx techspy scan stripe.com
npx techspy scan stripe.com --dns --subdomains

On a server or in CI, set TECHSPY_API_KEY instead of running login.

Commands

techspy scan <domain>Detect the tech stack. Add --dns, --subdomains, --sitemap, --deep or --interact for more stages; --force for a fresh scan; --no-save to keep it out of your history.
techspy accountYour plan, scans left today, and Deep Scan and Interact credits.
techspy scans listYour saved scans, newest first. --limit and --offset to page.
techspy scans get <scan-id>One saved scan.
techspy analysis <scan-id>The five-pillar strategy analysis of a saved scan. --generate creates one if there is none.
techspy login / logoutSave or remove your API key.

Every command takes --json and --help. Full reference: API docs.

Built for scripts

--jsonprints the API's JSON on stdout, and errors as JSON on stderr. Exit codes let a script branch without parsing text.

FAQ

Which plans include the CLI?+

Plus and Max. The CLI uses your plan's existing allowances: there is no separate API quota. Plus gets 30 scans a day, Max is unlimited.

What does a scan cost?+

Every scan uses one of your daily scans. --deep also uses a Deep Scan credit, and --interact uses an Interact credit and a Deep Scan credit. techspy account shows what is left.

Can I use an environment variable instead of login?+

Yes. Set TECHSPY_API_KEY and the CLI uses it ahead of the saved key, which suits CI and servers.

Do CLI scans show up in my dashboard?+

Yes. Scans from the CLI are saved to your scan history unless you pass --no-save.

Is my API key safe?+

It only authorises TechSpy on your account, and you can revoke or regenerate it anytime from the dashboard. The saved file is readable only by your user.

Scan your first site from the terminal

Plus includes the CLI, MCP server, REST API and Zapier: 30 scans a day.
